Powers, Roots and Surds
Powers and Roots can be put together to create a power or a root or a surd:
- Example 1. work out 82/3
- Example 2. work out 33/2
- Example 3. work out 73/2
| 82/3 | = | 3√(82) = 3√(8 × 8) = 3√64 |
| = | 4 | |
| Or | ||
| 82/3 | = | 82/3 = (3√8)2 = 22 = 2 × 2 |
| = | 4 |
| 33/2 | = | √(33) = √27 = √(9 × 3) |
| = | 3√3 | |
| Or | ||
| 33/2 | = | (√3)3 = √3 × √3 × √3 |
| = | 3√3 |
| 73/2 | = | √(73) = √343 = √(49 × 7) |
| = | 7√7 | |
| Or | ||
| 73/2 | = | (√7)3 = √7 × √7 × √7 |
