Roots
We already know that a number multiplied by itself more than three times is called a power (refer to Powers)
The roots works the other way: where you have the resulting power, and you want to find the number that is multiplied by itself for a number of times to get the power
| Power | 24 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 16 |
| Roots | 4√16 = 2 |
| Root can also be written as | 16¼ = 2 |
• Examples
| Root | Power | |
| 1. | 4√16 = 2 | 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 16 |
| 2. | 4√81 = 3 | 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 = 81 |
| 3. | 321/5 = 2 | 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 32 |
| 4. | 2431/5 = 3 | 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 = 243 |
