Mixed numbers − converting to top heavy fractions
A top heavy fraction is when the numerator is larger than the denominator
- Example 1. 2 4/5 = 14/5
- Example 2. 3 2/5 = 17/5
- Example 3. 1 3/7 = 10/7
Step 1. 2 × 5 = 10.
Step 2. 10 + 4 = 14.
The 14 becomes the numerator and the denominator is still 5
Step 1. 3 × 5 = 15.
Step 2. 15 + 2 = 17.
The 17 becomes the numerator and the denominator is still 5
Step 1. 1 × 7 = 7.
Step 2. 7 + 3 = 10.
The 10 becomes the numerator and the denominator is still 7
