Expanding Brackets − 2
Multiply what is outside the bracket with each term inside the bracket
Example 1. Expand 4a(a + 7)
Example 2. Expand 3a(a + b + 5)
Example 3. Expand s2(st + 3u + 7)
4a(a + 7)
= | 4a × (a + 7) | ||
= | (4a × a) + (4a × 7) | ||
= | 4a2 + 28a |
3a(a + b + 5)
= | 3a × (a + b + 5) | ||
= | (3a × a) + (3a × b) + (3a × 5)
= | 3a2 + 3ab + 15a |
s2(st + 3u + 7)
= | s2 × (st + 3u + 7) | ||
= | (s2 × st) + (s2 × 3u) + (s2 × 7)
= | s3t + 3s2u + 7s2 |
